How would you know if you are in an abusive relationship? You might think that you are with the right person but something does not seem right.
You just can not put your finger on it. Maybe it is the way that they are always criticizing you. Nothing that you do is ever right. Maybe you have gotten used to all the name calling. The words “stupid”, “idiot”, “dumb” is just accepted as part of your partner’s vocabulary.
Your partner makes you feel like shit and then on other days makes you feel good. You thought they were a good person when you met but now you are not sure. Sometimes, your partner just seems plain evil and on other days they are everything that you could want in spouse.
At first you felt flattered by your partner’s jealousy. This meant that they really want you because they do not want to share you with anyone else. But lately it is getting to you. Your partner is checking your texts, going through your bag, reading your diary, invading your privacy. This just can’t be right.
Lately, you have no time to see your friends or your family. Your partner has told you that you are spending too much time with your family and friends and that you should be with them all the time. You can’t remember the last time you have gone out on your own to see your friends.
In the beginning of the relationship you felt confident and happy. Now you feel trapped and alone. You feel sad. You love your partner but what they are doing is making you depressed. You love them but can they change?
You tried to talk to your partner about the things that they are doing that you do not like and they shouted at you and told you to shut up. Before you knew it they had slapped you. When you asked them why they told you it is not your place to question what they are doing……
What can you do? Leave or stay? Everything is so confusing and you feel like you can not think straight……
